Last week I met Caitlin. She is 31 years old.
Caitlin is married to Bryson, who is 30 years old. They have a 4-year-old daughter and a 5 month-old son. Caitlin called me last week asking me to help her achieve her dream.
She is a full-time mom and a caregiver and wanted to feel good about her body and herself. Her husband’s dream is to one day own a ramen restaurant. He works 15 hours a day, seven days a week.
This is their story.
Monday thru Friday, Bryson wakes up at 6:30 in the morning and works until 3pm for a company that prints silkscreened shirts and hats for car dealerships.
At 3pm, immediately after he’s done with his first job, he rushes home, quickly changes, and heads out for his second job. Bryson has another full-time job as a ramen chef in Highland Park. He works from 4pm until midnight, and sometimes longer.
Saturday and Sunday are Bryson’s light days. He only works from 10am until 6pm.
Weekends are the only days when Bryson is able to have dinner with his family and the only days when he can spend time with his children.
Last week was the first time in six months that Bryson had a day off. He chose to spend it at Disneyland with his family.
Caitlin and Bryson live with their two children and Caitlin’s 95-year-old grandmother.
That is Caitlin’s full-time job. She takes care of her children, her husband, and her grandmother.
When I asked her about her fitness goals she answered, “I just want to feel good about myself. I just want to be happy with the way I look and feel”.
“I want to do this not only for myself but also for my husband,” Caitlin added.
Being happy isn’t just Caitlin’s goal. It is also her husband’s wish.
“He wants me to be happy” Caitlin said.
Our choices affect not only us but also the people around us. Achieving our dreams will inspire others to go after theirs.
Listening to her talk about herself and her family reminded me of the reasons I established my own fitness and life goals and motivated me to help her succeed even more.
I have never met anyone with such a good attitude so early in the morning. Caitlin has never once complained about her situation.
It is so easy to find something wrong with what we do and ourselves. We all have something we are going through at any given time. However it is not about living a life without problems, it is about how we respond and how we deal with them. It all comes down to our attitude.
Let her story inspire you to dream a bigger dream and go after your goals.
Caitlin doesn’t want to get in shape only for herself – she wants it for her husband and her family as well. Being fit and happy is never a selfish act, but as we see in Caitlin’s case, it can also be a selfless one.
When she says NO to junk food, she actually says YES to her hard working spouse.
By looking out for herself and the way she feels, she is also looking out for her husband and her children.
It is like yin and yang.
Her strength and motivation don’t come just from her desire to look good in a bikini, but also from her desire to give her husband what he wants, and her children what they need.
Bryson’s sacrifice for his dreams and family’s wellbeing is what gives Caitlin the much-needed motivation and the strength needed to overcome every obstacle, fight every craving, and to wake up at 4:30 am to work towards achieving her goals.
Let Caitlin inspire you to dream bigger, and Bryson motivate you to work overtime to achieve your goals. Thank you Caitlin and Bryson for the inspiration.
